Counseling Internship Program

Why Intern With Us?

Our competitive counseling internship program provides excellent training and mentoring, and offers interns the opportunity to learn valuable clinical skills.

We offer internships at the start of each semester with a hybrid model, in-person at our Colorado Springs or Lakewood location, and/or virtually.

We value our interns, and offer weekly support through mentorship, supervision and training. Interns are also paid a small stipend throughout the duration of the semester.

Internship Structure

Students accepted to the internship program each semester start with their respective cohorts for an intern orientation and training one week prior to internship.

Interns are expected to complete a minimum of two consecutive semesters, but three semesters are preferred.

A minimum of 12-15 hours per week is required for the duration of the semester, to include both direct and indirect hours (with the exception of scheduled school breaks).

Training

Intern Orientation

All incoming interns will participate in a day long intern orientation one week prior to the start of practicum/ internship. Participation can be either in person or via zoom. Date and time to be determined for each cohort.

Weekly Training

Interns will complete 2 hours of training with their cohort and facilitators each week. The training will be held Friday mornings from 10am - 12pm. Day and time subject to change each semester.

Mentoring

Each intern will be assigned to a peer mentor at the start of the internship program. Mentors will meet with interns throughout the duration on the internship for the equivalent of 2 hours per month to provide additional support and guidance. Interns and mentors will collectively determine how and when they meet (i.e., in person for an hour every two weeks; via phone for 15 minutes a week, etc.).

Once a month, interns will participate in a peer consultation group (either in person or via zoom). The date and time to be determined prior to the start of the semester. This time may take the place of 1 hour of peer mentor time per month.
